MAYA ANGELOU

Maya Angelou was born on April 4, 1928. She was an American poet, dancer, singer, writer and civil rights activist, publishing over 10 different works of literature and achieving over 50 honorary degrees during her lifetime.

Angelou was an active spokesperson for black people and women, with her work focussing on themes such as racism, culture and identity.

She passed away on May 28, 2014, leaving a legacy of literature, television, movies, plays and poems, all of which are now used throughout schools and university to help educate the next generation.

If you are interested in reading some of Angelou’s work, ‘I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings’, published in 1969, is the first of her seven autobiographies and is a truly inspirational read.

I am going to be doing my best to use my platform as a way to support #blacklivesmatter. Do your best to spread awareness and highlight the importance of this movement.
