Knowing Me, Knowing You… with Raggie Writes

Shit is getting real, I have given my blog a little makeover and have decided to do a “get to know me” post. The title is the first “fun fact” about me, I don’t love Abba, but I do love Alan Partridge. I find it comforting seeing someone on television a little more awkward than myself… even if he is fictional. Moving on, I was struggling to figure out what to write about myself (I want to be a writer yet writing is an ongoing struggle) so I searched through the internet for “get to know me tags”, filtered out the plain dumb ones (there was literally a question asking what kind of cheesecake you would be… fucking seriously) and answered thirty questions that I thought were ever so slightly interesting. This felt so much like one of those old Facebook challenge things. Back int’ day. Cue the cringe-worthy photos…

1. What are your hobbies?

Reading and writing of course, but I love yoga and hiking in the Lake District. I also have an obsession with cars and motorbikes and go to lots of car shows in the UK with my big bro.

I have a hood ornament obsession too. I even have a hashtag, #rachaelshoodornaments, where there is about as little content as on my blog.

This is how I explore the Lakes. If I could give you any advice, it would be to get naked on a mountain top. Not sure why, I just think more people should do it.

2. Scary movies or happy endings?

When I was younger, I definitely would have said scary movies… but I have found that the world is dark enough without having to spend my chill out time sitting on the edge of my seat clutching a cushion. Now, I prefer to sit back and escape with something uplifting, like Age of Adaline or About Time. Not that I NEVER watch horrors… just only when the dark side of my mind needs feeding.

3. Favourite smells?

I had to answer this because I am weird here. I think I have a really strong sense of smell (probably down to my mountain of a nose) so I adore nice, smelly things. My favorite perfume is Miss Dior, I have worn it for so long that the smell brings back memories and every time I put it on, I add new memories to that scent. My grandma also used to love perfumes, which, I imagine, is where I developed my perfume obsession. Down to the weird thing though… As much as I get to enjoy beautiful smelling things at their full potential, I have the burden of smelling foul things as strongly as if they were in my own nostrils. One time a person walking in front of me up some stairs farted and I threw up. Gruesome, I know – I’m not holding back here (I wasn’t then either *booooom!*). Seriously though, it’s a curse and a blessing.

4. What is your zodiac sign? Do you believe in it?

I am an Aquarius, I even have it tattooed on me. Do I believe in it? No. It’s a load of crap. So why do I have it tattooed on me? Because I am a walking contradiction. Maybe it’s an Aquarian thing.

5. Do you have any siblings?

I have one older brother who I am lucky enough to have as a bestie.

john and i at santa pod summer 2017

Me and the big bro. We were at a car show at Santa Pod on one of the hottest days in the UK. We burned SO bad. Pro tip: If you are going to watch cars drifting get a makeshift lid for your beer or you WILL drink rubber.

6. What’s the furthest you’ve ever been from home?

I went to Lake Como in Italy once when I was about seven… It was cool. There were lizards and it was hot.

7. Do you have any special talents?

I can do a creepily low mans voice, pull horrendous faces and rap the fast part of Rap God? I also once drank a grown man under the table (I am proud). So, I am clearly a very well rounded and cultured lady.

8. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

I am definitely the most facetious person I know.

9. Do you have any pets?

No, but my brother and I have matching Jack Russell tattoos on our ribs and I once had a three-legged hamster named Lemmiwinks.

10. Who is your favourite writer?

Jane Austen. She is LIT my gal pal from 200 years ago. Excuse the pun.

11. Funniest moment throughout school?

It was either the time I broke my nose by accidentally tieing my shoelace to a football net, trying to run and then faceplanting the floor or when I laughed so hard in French class that I farted so loud the entire class heard. I mean, both were most probably traumatising for me… but amusing for everyone else.

12. What was your favourite and worst subject in high school?

My favorite was always English, even in Primary school. I hated Maths. I also hated my Maths teacher.

13. What is your favorite quote?

“We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.”

– Jim Rohn

14. Are you an extrovert or an introvert?

I am an introvert that has, unfortunately, always worked in public-facing jobs, so I have learned how to pretend to be an extrovert for short bursts of time, then I die a little inside and shut myself away from prolonged periods of time to recuperate.

15. Does your name have a special meaning?

I was going to be called Natasha, but my Grandma said it sounded like a sneeze. So they went with Rachael as my first name and Natasha as my middle name. Rachael means Ewe (sheep) in Hebrew. So yeah, my special name meaning is Ew Sneeze.

16. What are your most played songs on Spotify?

I’m a technological moron, so I can only find my most played for 2018…

As much as it may all look like metal, I listen to so much music… I said to my cousin once, “from Bach to Tupac”. I think that’s the best way to describe it.

17. What is your longest relationship so far?

Four years that I will never get back.

18. How tall are you?

I am one lanky mofo. I am 5ft11 and scare the hell outta most guys.

19. What is your favourite thing to have for breakfast?

Prosecco and cake. In an ideal world.

20. Are you married or single?

I am a single pringle, out ready to mingle… Oh god. I am just trying to put a chirpy spin on an incredibly depressing situation.

21. What is your most favourite movie scene?

I love the Shorty George scene from “You Were Never Lovelier” more than life itself.

22. Do you believe that Trump will make America great again?

As much as I believe Earth is flat.

23. What are you afraid of?

I despise heights. As soon as I am on anything where I could potentially fall and die, I lose my balance (ideal, I know), get shaky legs and panic.

24. Something “cool” about yourself…

Once upon a time, I was a grid girl for Ginetta at the British Touring Car Championships. I tried my hand at some modelling when I was growing up, mainly hair modelling for hairdressers and a little work with Aveda and Loreal. That was until I got alopecia and my hair began to fall out… but that is another story for a different time.

25. Where do you currently live?

With my wonderful parents in Morecambe in the North West of England. Most beautiful sunsets in the UK, but so much dog shit.

26. Can you describe yourself in three words?

Confused, hungry, procrastinator.

27. How do you feel right now?

28. What is your favourite animal?

I have four… dogs, because they are just amazing and make life infinitely better, seals, because they are just sea dogs, llamas, because you can never be sad and look at a llama and zebras, because they are a horse that supports Newcastle.

29. Who is your celebrity crush?

This is tough. I have a huge thing for Lawrence Krauss which my friends find kinda weird. I do have a huge thing for Daniel Riccardio and Max Verstappen though… Basically, I am like a dog on heat.

30. Where did you grow up?

I was born in a village called Warton in the North West of England, but I grew up in Newcastle in the North East.

This is not a picture from Warton or Newcastle… It is in Sedbergh, I just really like the photo and wanted to end on a high. It is in the North of England still though… so you know, it’s pretty.

So there were thirty not so interesting facts about me! I was going to do fifty, but halfway through I remembered my blog wasn’t intended for torture. If you read all of this you deserve a prize, but I haven’t got enough followers to do a giveaway, so if you liked any of what you read (you little weirdo, you), give me a follow and when Donald Trump makes America great again, you might get a prize.
